First Night

Years later, an adult Bruce Wayne sits in a confession booth, holding his glasses in his hand.

"Bless me father for I have sinned. It's been too long since my last confession. My dad used to come to this church when I was a kid. He's pretty famous, you'd probably know him. He was once a fighter, when he was younger. A lot of people don't know that. Old school, boxer. And he never got knocked out. He got knocked down, sure but he always got back up. That's why we fall... so we can learn to pick ourselves back up. People used to say becareful with those Wayne's, they got the devil in them. That's why my dad stopped boxing... because you'd see it sometimes in the ring. He'd let the devil out. I didn't understand how he went from that to being a medical doctor, running a million dollar company. I didn't understand what he was feeling back then to make him stop boxing."

"But you understand it now? Perhaps this'll be easier if you tell me what you've done." The father asks.

Bruce puts on his glasses

"I'm not seeking penance for what I've done, father... I'm asking forgiveness for what I am going to do."

Later that night, in the underground caves that Bruce and Alfred turned into a base of operations. Bruce starts to put on red and black protective body armor with a bat symbol on his chest, puts on his utility belt, straps on his advanced alloy gloves, and puts on a helmet with red lenses, made out of a carbon nanotube- based alloy. When he turns around to Alfred, his butler and friend is stunned by the sight of him, his face covered in darkness, with glowing red eyes piercing his soul.

"My God." Alfred says.

Bruce walks past him, and goes out into the city as something incorruptible, everlasting, something elemental... something terrifying. A symbol. A man without fear. Later on the rooftops of the city, Bruce stands there, patiently waiting. He then hears a woman's screams and quickly jumps into action. On a dark street of Gotham, a group of men corner a defenseless woman with tears in her eyes. One of the men smirks, slowly walks over and grabs her by the face.

"Please... don't hurt me." She says.

The man softly shushes her.

"Don't worry baby. I'll be gentle."

At that moment, foot steps are heard down a dark alley behind the men. A few moments of anticipation, Bruce(wearing his new suit and mask) steps out of the dark alley, becoming fully visible to the men. As Bruce glares at them, the men start to laugh at him. The leader of the group let's go of the woman and approaches Bruce.

"The hell are you supposed to be?" The man asks.

Bruce doesn't answer, continuing to glare at him. The man gets angry and swings at him, but Bruce hears his movements, catching him by the wrist, punches him across the face, and snaps his arm in half. As he screams out in pain, Bruce punches him in the face again, dropping him to the ground, repeatedly pounding his face in, until blood is dripping from his fist. The rest of the men are stunned silent as Bruce continues to glare at them.

"I'm Vengeance." Bruce answers.

After a small stand off between Bruce and the thugs, one of them finally runs at him. Bruce hears this, landing a right hook to his jaw at the perfect time, knocking him out cold. Another man charges in, getting dropped with a powerful uppercut that knocks out some of his teeth. Bruce flips over a thug and kicks another in the chest, knocking him into a light pole. One of the thugs finally lands a punch on Bruce while he was distracted. The dark vigilante spits out blood from his mouth and smiles, scarring the thug that hit him. He tries to throw another punch but before he could, Bruce punches him in the nose, lands a headbutt, then throws him head first into the ground.

Another thug comes from behind and throws a kick, but Bruce catches his leg, sweeps him to the ground and breaks his leg. He then turns his attention to the last thug standing, who is frozen in fear. He starts to walk towards him, grabbing him by the shirt, preparing to throw a punch, but he stops and listens close. He hears the thugs heart beat, realizing that he's just a scared kid in all of this. After a few moments pass, Bruce slowly let's go of the kid, surprising him.

"Get out of here." Bruce says.

The boy quickly runs away in fear, as Bruce hears another racing heartbeat nearby. Bruce then turns to the woman who was almost assaulted by the men. He slowly walks towards her, as she quickly backs away while on the ground. Bruce stands infront of her, extending his hand. The woman stares at him for a moment before slowly taking his hand, allowing him to help her to her feet.

"There's a Police Station near by. Ask for detective Jim Gordon, he's a good cop. A good man." Bruce says.

The woman stares at him for a moment, before hugging him. This surprises Bruce, not expecting this.

"Thank you." She says.

Bruce nods, as the woman runs away. The young hero smiles while watching her get away safely with her life, something his father couldn't do. Later that night, multiple police officers take in the group of men, while detective Jim Gordon and Commissioner Gillian Loeb stand in the aftermath.

"What do we got, Jim?" Loeb asks.

"A few hours ago, a young woman comes running into the precinct, asking for me by name. Says these bums attacked her, but she was saved." Jim says.

"By who?" Loeb asks.

Jim smirks.

"She says a man dressed as a bat, with red eyes came from the shadows and saved her. Dropped all these guys all by himself."

"The devil... he was the devil." One of the thugs say while being carried off, still concussed.

The two cops look at each other for a moment before Detective Gordon shrugs and as Commissioner Loeb looks annoyed.

"I want written statements from everyone involved tonight as soon as possible." Loeb says.

Meanwhile, Bruce stands on a rooftop listening in on everything thats happening below.
