Chapter 29

Today is a miquel day Eve was getting pouty about not being able to spend time with him. So I go ahead and summon miquel to watch Eve then, I may or may not have stormed off. But I'm sure I looked handsome doing it… Whichever it was.

Using my newly acquired teachers salary which I believe to be roughly equivalent to 15,000 USD. How do I know this? Well the currency is based on different metals shaped like mini bars, with pressed insignia on them. First we have tin or nickel "coins" . Yes, I'll call them coins, even though they are not circular. It differed but for now 5-6 of those equal a copper coin. 3-4 ish of those equal an iron coin and 7 iron coins equal a silver coin. The currency sucks. It's much different from the Romans but gosh why the h*ll is it so mixed up? Not to mention when I was trying to find prices I got lots of different quotes. Only iron coins were really constant. So I will try to equate coins to USD because I don't think that's ever going to sit in.

Apples are around 50 cents right? That was my first comparison until I realized that normal people don't have nearly as much access to apples as they do now. Then I thought lumber would be a good idea, and that it was worth around… I forgot. But I eventually came to a good answer. Grain or bread. Now the quality is much lower than I am used to but it should be similar in price to the bread I know. The bread I know was about… $2.50? I think? That's what I used to find my wage. I was given around 60 silver coins, so if my math is right! Which it is, how can a ⅓ god be wrong. I should have gotten $15,000.

Anyway I decided to buy something I have wanted for a bit. The handcuffs or something made out of that material. If I couldn't buy them, I am hoping that there is a similar material. So I went to the market which consisted of lots of tented stands that sell random items. I looked around for a while before arriving in front of a store. Not a stand but a building, inside were numerous guards and a few necklaces on sale. I headed in and asked the store clerk or who I assume to be a few questions.

"Do you only sell jewelry?"

"We sell many different items, but most of the time we focus on jewelry."

"Do you sell any items with properties that make people tell the truth?"

"We do! But we only have a limited stock. So they might cost more than you expect!"

"Can I see them?"

"Of course! But only one at a time."

He goes through a door towards the back of the room and walks up to me holding a pair of bracelets. He then says.

"These are bracelets that gorse the wearer to tell the truth! Great for disobedient spouses! Just remember only the thumb!"

"What's the price?"

"Only 300 silver pieces, which is cheap compared to other stores!"

"Do you have anything of the same metal but around 50 silver pieces?"

"50? I believe we should have a few rings that are made of the holy metal, they should be around 35 rings but I have to check their price."

"Please bring them up."

He once again goes behind the door and comes out with only a decorated box. He says.

"These are the rings but I checked their price and it was actually 40 per ring. But! I will sell them to you for 70 silver coins if you buy them together!"

"How about 55?"

"I would lose way too much money! How about 65, that is my minimum."

"How about we settle for 60?"

"… I'm sorry customer but I really can't sell them for less than 65."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes I apologize."

"Fine I will take one ring for 35 like you originally stated."

"T-that… ok thank you for your purchase."

Well that didn't end as well as I would have liked but hey! I still got a bit of the metal, plus if it has positive properties I can give it to Eve! NOT TO MARRY HER! So she can give it to her future wife and my future daughter in law. After all, during this time there is no way a woman could give a ring to a man. But no one said anything about a woman giving a ring to a woman. Also I can't remember if it was the Greeks or Romans who said love is between people of the same sex. Something about not being able to love someone who shares your sex because you also want to have a child. You aren't just fully with them to spend time with them and enjoy their company. There is another motive.

I am going to have to give Eve some extra select lessons. I should make sure she puts love above children! And strive to make her either single or make her love another girl! It's always great to repeat goals in your head. I jog home so I can test the holy metal. I head to the training grounds so I have an open area. After arriving I take the ring out the box, and hold it in my palm. First I try to run magic through it like I do a sword. And thankfully it works! More accurately it mostly works. My magic runs smoothly through it but that's all. Through it. None of it gets kept in the ring.

But! The magic flows right back into my hand. It might have something to do with the shape of the ring. Maybe it's because it's a circle? Because of that it goes back to the beginning? After all I have only really tested imbuing my magic on swords and they are not really known for their roundness.
