CHAPTER 6 - GUARDIAN

CHAPTER 6 - Guardian.

"Huh?" The vampire tilted her head in confusion hearing Elijah. The one in question released a deep breath of air as he stood up, his left hand still gripping Yamato.

"Your name is Erylis." At his words, Erylis' eyes lit up with a light unknown even to him. HE found it strange but didn't say anything.

'Wow… People's eyes can really look like that?' he thought, gazing into the girl's ruby red eyes. As much as he wanted to stay with her and chat some more, he had a Guardian to kill. Spinning on his heel, he walked towards the middle of the room, his eyes looking at the ceiling the whole time.

Erylis watched with confusion, unknown as to what he was waiting for. Even then, in her mind she was steadily repeating the name she had just received as if she was trying to engrave it into her very heart.

She wanted to join Elijah wherever he was going, but the look in his eyes before he left, he told her otherwise. Taking this chance to just observe the boy that saved her, she relaxed behind one of the one-kilometer-high stone pillars and peaked around it.

Elijah took in a deep breath, holding it. The world around him seemed to react as if on command. The beating of his and Erylis' heart entered his ears, the sound of dripping water joined. Then came along a third heartbeat. A heartbeat so strong it sounded more so like a giant walking across the very earth they stood on.

His eyes narrowed as he used his right hand to summon an ice dragon infused with golden lightning. The dragon roared to life as it sped towards the very top of the ceiling, looking as if it was going to devour the very darkness that hides the monster within.

"RHAAAAG!" Elijah smirked, the spell he conjured crashed into the Guardian that lurked, trying to get the jump on the two. The room shook violently, giant boulder sized rocks of debris came falling down like rain from the roof, alongside it was a giant, fifty meter wide, thirty-meter-tall scorpion monster crossed with a crab.

Elijah jumped back, his back towards Erylis as a way to protect her. The Guardian in front of him roared once more as its left claw shot towards him, the jagged edges closing, looking to cut him in half.

Arrogantly holding out his hand, Elijah was looking to stop the beast in its tracks. You can imagine how surprised he was when the exact opposite of that happened.

"Guh!" Elijah grunted in pain as he was violently shot away, his body zooming through the air at the speed of lightning. His figure crashed into the wall that encompassed this area, his stature imprinting upon it.

The Guardian instantly readied itself to attack once more, finding that Elijah had indeed not died with just that single hit. In fact, the monster knew that Elijah hadn't sustained any considerable damage except for maybe a few bruises.

Flaring its tail, the Guardian launched spiked projectiles made of the same hard and durable material that its original shell was made of. The spikes flew towards Elijah with speed faster than the speed of sound.

Erylis shook with anxiousness and worry seeing her savior get sent flying like a ragdoll. She wanted to help, she felt herself shaking in self-depreciation as she knew she wouldn't be of help since she is quite literally out of mana.

BOOOM!*

The spikes instantly shot dust up into the air, ripping through the very stone that designed the room floor. The Guardians' attacks eased up, figuring that the intruder had certainly died. There was no way for a person to survive the onslaught it just released.

That would be true… If its target was normal.

Erylis froze up, the Guardian instantly turned its attention back on the Vampire prisoner. Just like it did with Elijah, its hind tail raised, opening as spikes began to protrude; Threatening to fire and pierce the girl with no hesitation.

However, just before it could release its attack…

SHING!*

The sound of metal whizzing through the air filled the room, and a second later… The very tail belonging to the Guardian slid clean off the bone.

"Oouu? OUUUUAGH!" The Guardian screeched in pain and surprise. The pain it's feeling now was nothing it's ever felt before, in fact, it's never even BEEN hurt before… There was no way it knew how to cope with this much pain.

The one responsible for the severing of the Scorpion's tail stood tall behind it, his form hidden from the eyes of Erylis. The only thing she could make out was Elijah's glowing, piercing golden eyes.

Elijah originally didn't want to use Yamato for this fight. The sharpness the blade had achieved over the number of bodies it had cut through was something he was sure no material in the world could stop.

He wanted to fight this monster utilizing nothing but his ring, physical self and his magic.

"Aw… Don't be too mad. Surely, it'll grow back." He playfully taunted, dodging the swing of the Guardians claw. The monster roared once more, its jaws displayed for all to see, and in it were fangs that seemed to belong to a spider.

Elijah's eyes squinted, it seemed that the monster he was fighting was quite obviously a chimera crossed between a crab, scorpion, and a damn spider.

He hated spiders…

They always give him the creeps. Especially the eyes, but thankfully the gigantic abomination didn't have any. It seemed to use mana to sense and move around. Quite unique as this was the first entity he realized used this technique beside him and Cloud.

The ring on Elijah's finger glows dimly before a Wraithic bow appears in his hand, a Wraith arrow following suit in his other hand as he threw Yamato to Erylis.

He made a commitment to using mana and the ring only and he intended on going through with it. Having Yamato in his grasp would only tempt him to use the trustworthy blade.

The girl in question watched with lack of expression as the sheathed blade landed perfectly in front of her, sliding only to come to a stop at her knees. She looked at the blade with interest brimming in her ruby eyes.

Reaching for it, she tried to pick it up, only to struggle.

"...Oog!" She grunted awkwardly as her arms began to strain. No matter how hard she tried, no matter the strength, the blade wouldn't budge. It was like it weighed the size of a five-story building!

Puffing her cheeks, she pouted realizing that she was weaker than ever right now. She just hoped that Elijah wouldn't mind her using him as a way to get her power back… She hated feeling weak and useless.

BANG! *

BOOM! *

The sounds of explosions and thundering rocks blasted a wave of pressure throughout the room, throwing Erylis' hair in a frenzy. Her eyes widened feeling the mana that Elijah released, it was much more than she expected…

However, her awe was quickly replaced by fear.

FWOOM! *

BOOM! *

Elijah's form went flying through the air once more, his figure flashing past Erylis' eyes before crashing into the wall behind her. Elijah groaned, no noticeable damage but one could tell that the damage was done more so to his psyche.

'This is pathetic...'

A/N!

Before y'all say something about how Elijah is getting bodied right now, just know that his magical capabilities will be the main thing to grow throughout the story as Yamato is quite literally a cheat of a weapon. I made it a lil TOO op.

Anyways, the Guardian was buffed to cause I like making MCs lose sometimes.
