Chapter 49: Ring the Bells

A silent breeze blows above the mer. Kiora digs her toes into the sand. She stands with her jaw agape. 'Is he serious?' Her mind turns numb from the question. Kiora crosses both arms in defense.

<div>"Are you joking?" She asks.</div>

<div>"Not at all, ma cherisa," Santanna coos. He reaches for her hands. "Will you marry me?"</div>

<div>Kiora asserts her position. She removes herself away from his grasp. 'Asking a second time changes nothing.' Her thoughts spit. A flicker of anger bubbles in her stomach.</div>

<div>"How dare you ask me that!" Kiora glares. "I don't love you!"</div>

<div>Despite the storm raging in Santanna's chest, the old Daemik remains calm. 'I didn't expect her to be this obstinate.' He observes. The opposition tickles him. 'What fun though!' Santanna smiles. He responds to her distance with a step backwards.</div>

<div>"Very well," he says. Santanna's eyes gleam. "You can think of my proposal and give me an answer another time."</div>
