Chapter 28: Why?

"Sirius! Sirius please stop ignoring me. What have I done to make you like this." For the past ten minutes I'd no joke been following Sirius around as he refused to speak with me. I didn't know what I'd done so wrong that he is now just blatently ignoring me but he seemed really pissed off. The other Gryffindors were all following us a couple of metres or so behind us yet they didn't say anything as I was shouting after my friend. "Sirius I just want to talk please!" I shout drawing many students' attentions yet the boy didn't stop.

I go to call the boy again but a hand on my right shoulder stops me. "I'd just leave him if I were you, he obviously wants to be alone right now" Narcissa advised, her words full of sympathy. I look up at her and glace back at the Gryffindors now rounding the corner yet none of them stopped apart from Remus who glanced back sadly. "I know you want to talk with them but they need time to cool off. It's their faults not yours, so how about we go to class and try again later?" she asked sadly. With a single nod I look at the ground and begin to walk the opposite way to where my friends went and headed towards the History of Magic classroom without a second thought.

Sirius, please talk to me I want to make things right-ML

I quickly scrunched up the paper into a thick ball and throw it so it landed on the desk between James and Sirius. Every single time he got the note he'd read it but just brushed it onto the floor like it was nothing. Obviously to him it was nothing but to me that meant much more. That meant he really didn't care about our friendship and just me. All I wanted was for everything to go back to normal where I could laugh and joke with my friends, pull pranks on my classmates and even judt enjoy the company of those around me. But that's all in the past. It's the future we must now worry about.

I took out another small piece of parchment but as it didn't look as if Sirius was to answer anytime soon so I wrote a note to someone who'd actually reply, Remus.

Rem, what's going on? Why are Sirius and the others all ignoring me?-ML

After I got the note to my brother, another came my way almost inatantly and it was indeed a reply.

Well lets just say that they all kinda saw you sitting at the Slytherin table and talking with the blonde guy in charms so they are just annoyed. You know how they get around the 'enemies'-RL

But why won't they just talk to me about it? I know the current situation might not look good for them but why won't they ley me explain myself-ML

I don't know Sis. I'll try to talk to them but I would leave them for some time to cool off. Just be careful around your new friends, I don't want you to get hurt-RL

I will don't worry. We're all propely friends now after what happened with Regulus-ML

WHAT HAPPENED! DID HE HURT YOU?! DID HE SAY SOMETHING?! DO I HAVE TO PUT HIM IN HIS PLACE?!-RL

No Rem calm down. Let's just say he was a bit suspicious of me at first because I hang around with you lot but we're alright now-ML

Okay just checking, but promise you will tell me if he does something to you?-Rl

I promise just don't do anything you will regret-ML

Oh trust me, if he lays a finger on you he will be the one regretting it-RL

I let out a small laugh and tuck the parchment into my robe pocket. Andromeda (who was sitting to my right and reading the notes over my shoulder) smiled widely especially at the last comment. The bell rang loudly and we all filed out before the ghost of a professor could say anything else about the boring goblin wars no one cares about.

"Your brother really is protective of you isn't he" the girl laughed in the corridor.

"Yeah he is, he's always been like that though. Even when we were really young and first going to a muggle school. There was this one boy who snatched a block out of my hands and then Remus came in full defensive mode and got the block back for me. I won't say how exactly" I laughed. Andromeda also let out a hearty laugh as we came out onto the marble staircase.

"And we all thought that Remus was the biggest rule follower here" she grinned coming to a stop.

"Rem would only break the rules for me. Catch you later" with a final smile, we depart both heading to our seperate common rooms. My plan was to do homework and then try and speak with James, Sirius, Peter and Naomi but who knew when they'd be ready to talk. It could be weeks before I could propely talk with them again but let's hope that wouldn't be the case and that they would accept me once more.

As I climbed through the portrait whole on the seventh floor, I flash of black and red robes (and a set of green and black to) disappear up the common room stairs quicker than floo powder. It seemed as if they really were avoiding me like I was a disease but if thats what they want to do, I'm not going to stop them. If they all really didn't want to be my friends then fine, it's their choice but the least they can do is say it to my face. I hate people who talk behind eachother's backs and that's what it felt like, let's just hope they come around in a bit.

Five hours... Five long hours of nothing... During that time I'd done my one and only piece of homework and studied for way later in the year. I was bored without my friends but I didn't want to go find my new Slytherins friends because one: that would probably make my Gryffindor friends angrier and two: I didn't want to seem needy. I know that Andromeda and Narcissa would probably not see me like that and would completely understand but I didn't want to chance anything as I sat in the Gryffindor Common Room bored.

Although it was only nine, I felt really tired and may have drifted off a couple of times within the long five hours. I was going to give up waiting for the others who hadn't even left their dorm for dinner when a hand on my shoulder woke me up from my nap. Looking up, I meet the warm brown eyes and tanned skin of Naomi peering down upon me.

"Sorry to wake you but we need to talk" she whispered with a sad smile. I nod, climbing out of the armchair with my book and followed her up the spiral staircase of Gryffindor Tower. We came upon the boys' dorm rather quickly and we were about to enter when I stop Naomi.

"Nomi, your not mad at me are you?" I whisper. The girl shows a look of confusion, shaking her head.

"Of course not why would I be?"

"Because I was hanging around with Slytherins..."

"For Merlin's sake Meadow, of course I'm not mad at you. Your my best friend and have brought so much joy to my life, I couldn't be mad at you even if I tried" she smiled pulling me in for a hug. "Just be careful okay?"

"I will, I promise" I choked squeezing the girl tighter. We remained in the same embrace for a couple more moments before we broke away and entered the room full of three angry boys and my brother.

"So care to explain why your hanging around my brother and his dogs" Sirius spat glaring up from his bed. At first I was taken aback by his tone for he never spoke like this not even last year during the whole 'Naomi is a good Slytherin' thing.

"Because we became friends obviously. So care to explain why you've been ignoring me all afternoon" I spat back, using the same harsh tone in my words. Both Peter and James looked up quickly not expecting how harsh I sounded.

"Well you've been hanging around with enemies, what do you expect?"

"A bit of human decency from you!"

"AND WHY SHOULD WE GIVE YOU THAT!" Sirius shouted unexpectedly. I flinch and step away, not knowing what the storm inside of him was going to do. Glancing up at me, his silver eyes held regret but that quickly changed as he remembered why he was angry at me in the first place. If only he could give people a chance.

"SIRIUS, DON'T SHOUT AT HER" Remus defended, standing to my left.

"BUT SHE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND! I've know some of them Slytherins longer than any of you have imagined. I know what they are capable of. I know what they could do. Do you want your sister dead Remus? Or worse, one of them. It's their families I don't want getting involved. If anything I'm trying to protect your sister Remus, I don't want her to fall into their clutches" Sirius ended whispering, his sad eyes watching me watch him. I now only realized how supportive and protective he really was yet I couldn't bring myself to forgive him just yet.

"But why didn't you just say that?" I ask in a whisper.

He sighed but replied none the less. "Because I was scared of how you'd react. I know sometimes you can feel like you don't need protecting so I figured by pushing you away, I could protect you from afar without hurting you anymore than I had. Naomi and Remus made me realize how much of a fool I was. Do you forgive me?"

"I don't know... This is all too much to process. I just need some time okay?" I look at everyone sadly, before leaving the room.

"I'll wait however long you need" was the last thing I heard as I closed the door behind me and went to the girls dorm for a good nights sleep.

Overprotective Remus and soft Sirius!? I really am treating you guys :)

Hope you enjoyed
