The Rare Blood Guard
" What? Why do you look so shocked? " I asked.
" You're transparent? " Kaku asked puzzled.
I looked down and mumbled an apology as I turned back into flesh and bone. I looked at my wound and frowned. They followed my glare and with a gasp Kaku grabbed the cloth wrapped around his arm and started to wrap it around my shoulder. I gasped in pain and tried to focus on the guy talking instead.
" Your a Daikuroikku. " The guy murmured.
" What did you call me? " I asked.
Kaku stepped back after he was done wrapping my wound.
" You're a Daikuroikku it means that your blood isn't red, silver, gold or bronze. It's far more rare than any of those basic blood types. Your blood has more than one color and it often will change depending on the way light or the sun hits it. At night if your wounded it will glow a soft white. " Kaku answered.
" Who are you? " I asked stunned.
He smiled brightly and waved me into the crowd gesturing for us to follow. I followed with my bike and Kaku trailed behind me.
" My name is Zugaikotsu Haundo, you may call me Kaen. I am a " He said making his way out of the crowd.
" What's yours, girl. " Kaen asked.
" My name is Jūryoku Yūkei, you will call me Angel. " I said firmly.
He stopped in front of a small hut and stormed in after stopping to look at me with a raised brow. He hurried in wasting no time. I propped my bike on the side of the building.
I had to jog to catch up and so did Kaku.
" You know what I am? " I asked.
" I don't know exactly what you can do but I know you're not the only one born a slave and has powers. Where did you come from and how did you wind up here, Angel? " Kaen replied, going through another door and down into a vine covered alley way.
The walls of the alley were limestone and concrete and vines lapped up the wall, crawling over the edge onto the roof of the building.
" I came from a village called Barehallow in Newshore. The soldiers in my town had gotten orders to terminate my entire village. My family was dangerous we all knew how to fight, survive, shoot and kill with many different weapons. They knew this though so they brought a legion of the Almighty Guard to deal with us. They killed my family, I thought me and Ryoshi had survived together but a soldier managed to get behind us and he killed Ryoshi. He killed the only person I let get close to me, the only one I would ever let touch me and they took him from me. " I said tears falling lightly.
I wiped them away before they could turn to look at me and cleared my throat before I continued.
" Ryoshi told me to get out of Barehollow and I tried but then the guard surrounded me. They said the Almighty wanted me dead and that they would find me and kill me. I am a fugitive and a dangerous one with two powers and was born a slave. " I said as we rounded a corner into a small walkway made of flat rocks.
" To get here I had to sneak out of Barehollow and out into The Silent Lands ruin, past the Grave Desert, into Faded Creek Forest and whatever this place is called. " I finished.
" This place is called Oldbay one of the many bases the The Rare Bloods come to stay under the kingdom's noses. Though most of them fled and got away or were executed on site. Now there are only seven of us left still together. " Kaen answered grimly.
" What are your powers, Angel? " Kaku asked excited.
" I know one of them is controlling gravity and I don't know what the other one is called but it makes me transparent and things can go through me. I have a hard time controlling that power. " I said looking at my hands that now glowed at my command.
" Its called tangibility and I would like to see this Gravity power your talking about. Besides just showing me glowing hands. " Kaen said.
We stopped in front of a large stone wall. There weren't any entry points.
They walked through the wall and I followed and what I saw behind the wall made my breath catch.
The place was so amazing there were pretty trees and gorgeous lakes of blue and meadows filled with fluttering butterflies.
" Welcome to Paradise Haven, Angel. " Kaen said.
I twirled around in awe and actually giggled for the first time since leaving Barehollow. I took in all the places features and characteristics, the smell of blossoms in bloom, the light swishing of the long and tall grass in the meadows, the trickling of a spring, the birds singing and peaceful silence. This was an incredible place, one that I would gladly live in for the remainder of my life. But like all good things, Kaku trampled that joy.
" This is only temporary though. " Kaku explained, shattering my happiness.
" How come? " I asked.
I watched a pink and purple colored butterfly perch on my finger.
" We will be leaving three days from now, onto the next secret base. That gives us enough time to get you educated on everything that lay ahead of us. " Kaen said, making me frown.
The butterfly fluttered away as a building came into view and we finally walked through the meadow, onto hard earth.
Once we got closer, a small girl and boy, who couldn't be over eight years old, came out of the building.
" KAEN! " The small boy shouted running towards Kaen said.
The small boy jumped on Kaen and held him in a mock choke hold. Kaen faked having a difficult time getting out of it and once he did, he smiled at the boy. The boy stood at my waist. He had black shaggy hair and His eyes were white.
" I wasn't gone for that long, Hokai. Glad you missed me. " He chuckled picking the boy up and putting him on his shoulder. The little girl came running next but instead of going to Kaen she ran to me. She was the same height as Hokai. She had short curly white hair and her eyes were white and when the light danced in them they looked to be swimming with colorful magic. She tugged at my jacket and I took that as a sign that she wanted me to go down to her level. I bent to one knee and smiled brightly at the girl who in turn gave me a smile that could brighten any darkness.
" Hi! " I said.
" Who is she? " Hokai asked, curiosity leaking through.
" This is Angel, another Rare Blood. She is now part of the Rare Blood Guard, and will be training with us this afternoon. " He answered.
" Hello " I said tentatively.
" Hello, Angel " Hokai said, giving me a small but hesitant smile.
" My name is Sozo! " The little girl beamed.
" It's very nice to meet, you Sozo. " I smiled.
" Sozo! Hokai! Get In here and wash up for lunch " A small girl said peaking out of the door.
When she saw us she smiled but then she looked at me and a sudden look of hope painted her face.
" You too, come on in! I bet you're hungry. " She said smiling.
She was about my height and had mocha colored skin. She had bright green hair that went to her shoulders in neat curls. Her eyes matched her hair and I noticed that when she looked at Kaku her cheeks blushed a light green rather than the normal pink. She was skinny and slim just like me and when she walked her walk was as graceful as the grass in the meadow.
I followed and I was shocked when Sozo grabbed my hand with her small hands. She smiled up at me as we walked and I couldn't help but to smile back. This little girl, I would let get close, maybe I could let them all close. I didn't want to let more than one person close just yet.
