“Its southern boundary is approximately thirty miles from where you lived,” Conall replied.
“Why didn’t he attack us outright?”
Deke fielded that question. “Suppose you were a cop investigating the murder. Wouldn’t you question it if you found four people obviously mauled to death by wolves in their own home.”
“Well…yeah, I guess,” Molly replied.
“Ulric’s an Alpha, so he’s smart enough to figure that out. Whether he was the one who set the fire, or it was one or two of his betas he sent to do the job, the result was the same. Your parents died, and you would have as well if it weren’t for the fact Rory was still awake when they firebombed your house, and saved you both.”
“My guess is, they thought the two of you would already be in bed at that hour,” Conall added. “That, or Rory would be downstairs with your folks. Either way, they were wrong, and pretty stupid not to have checked first.”
