“No. We moved when I was around five. I don’t remember much of the old place other than that it was well outside the city, sort of like here.”
“My guess would be they wanted you to have a normal childhood once they decided that no one was going to come after them.”
“I suppose so. Though they were wrong about no one finding them, damn it. Why after all these years?”
“That’s what we have to figure out,” Deke replied. He tapped his fingers together. “I can understand someone from his pack wanting to punish your dad for leaving the way he did. The same holds true for your mom’s pack, I suppose. It’s the fact they seem to want you and Molly dead as well that bothers me.”
“Mixed bloodlines?” Rory said acerbically. “Like humans who don’t believe in intermarriage between races? We’re tainted, so to speak, and so we’re anathemas who have to be destroyed.”
“Not a nice thought, but definitely one to consider.”
