“I wasn’t. I think it’s admirable. It’s also going to be hard to keep it a secret, after what I’ve learned from Conall.”
“He said you asked him to find out about my folks.” Rory turned his attention to Conall again. “Did you?”
“Yes.” He paused. “Your sister’s back so let’s postpone this for the time being.”
He was correct. Rory heard her dashing toward the office. When she burst in he said, waggling a finger at her, “Mom and Dad taught you better. You’re to walk when you’re in the house, especially someone else’s, and to knock before entering a room.”
She looked down, chastened, murmuring, “Sorry.”
“It’s okay, this time,” Rory replied. “I know all this is new and sort of exciting.”
“And scary.” She shivered. “But no one can find us now, right?” She looked at Deke.
“Right.”
She frowned. “Conall did.”
“Because he’s been here before,” Deke explained. “I asked him to come by to, um…”
