The End Of Bonds

Michael left the area without saying a word, they had caused quite a disruption and he knew people would soon be gathered, he did not even acknowledge Edward's existence.

Edward knew he had to give Michael space, he didn't want their friendship to end over something like this. He had no intention of letting it go and was willing to fight for it.

But right now, Damon had requested an audience with him and he already knew it was about his superpowers, he knew how powerful negation was and had intentionally kept it under wraps because he knew he needed to be by Michael's side as his protector.

But the illusion had been destroyed right now, Michael hated him and maybe this was for the best, it would allow him to leave this place behind for good and start a new life.

Edward doubted the supervillain agency was one where they breed evil but they rather just used a fancy name and this was, in reality, just to help them control their powers.

"Young man, what's your name?" Damon requested. Edward saw this as a sign, maybe it was time for him to move on as well. Maybe he needed to become a superhero that could keep Michael in check if he does go out of control. Be the batman to his joker, to do that he needed the freedom and money that came with being a licensed superhero.

He weighed the pros and cons. Right now, the pros outweigh the con and Edward had a decision to make. His mother was dead, he didn't even have time to process her death nor mourn her but looking at the villain's dead body did nothing for him, he thought he would be overcome by some sort of relief but he felt angrier, he felt sadder.

He put up a brave face until he collected Damon's card and watched the superhero vanish.

All his emotions came bursting up to the surface at once, he dropped to his knees as tears kept pouring out of his hands like a fountain, he could not believe his mother was dead.

Was it his fault, would she be alive if he had stopped her from going out that night?

Edward felt sick, a nauseating taste in his mouth was his stomach processing this emotional pain, throwing up all over the place.

He wasn't alone, Damon watched him from some distance away and understood that this would be a transitional period for him. For whatever he lost, he would want to prevent others from experiencing it.

"Let it all out," Damon muttered under his breath before vanishing from the area via his teleportation, leaving no trace of him behind.

Michael went back home, he was still feeling euphoric and with Edward no longer suppressing his powers, the hunger he felt multiplied. Never learning how to control it made it near-impossible to do so now.

He was feeling invincible and wasn't quite thinking straight at this moment, something his mother would soon find out.

"Michael! Where have you been!?" His mother barked but Michael had tasted something he was never met to taste.

"Where have I been? Mother, if we were attacked, do you think you have the means to protect me?" Michael's voice was colder than usual, something his mother took note of.

"WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!? YOU DO NOT LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT TELLING ME!" She demanded and Michael just laughed at the absurdity, why was someone with no means to protect him from the creatures of this world even raising her voice at him?

He was the man of the house right now and he knew for a fact that there was nothing his mother could do but obey him or there would be consequences.

She attempted to slap him with her left hand but her hand never made contact with his skin, an invincible barrier had stopped her hands.

The look of confusion was evident on her face as her left hand snapped in half.

"I understand everything now, mother. The hunger was never my enemy, you all were," Michael said, and for the first time in his life, he saw the fear in his mother's eyes.

"I-Impossible!" She blurted out, and Michael began laughing as his mother screamed in pain and agony. The pain they had inflicted on him for years, it was now his turn.

"Do you feel it, mother? This is the pain of your scorned child," Michael said and the moment he did, her other wrist snapped into two.

There was no doubting it now. Whatever Michael did, he had somehow gained the powers of the person he had examined.

Michael knew he should stop but he couldn't control himself or his urges.

The hatred for his mother came flooding forward, and Michael lifted her in the air.

She looked terrified and Michael derived joy from this, his father was lucky he bailed or he would have suffered this same fate.

"M-Michael baby! Please!" His mother pleaded, she was barely audible through her tears, with her wrists dangling about reminiscent of a swing.

"Hahaha! The love of a parent is only unconditional in death, do you love me, mother?" Michael asked, caressing his mother's tearful face.

"Y-YES! I DO! I ALWAYS HAVE!" His mother said desperately, she was fighting for her life and hoped her words could get through to him.

"You have no idea how long I have waited to hear those words, mother! It makes me happy!" Michael was delighted, and his mother knew this might be her chance.

"Let mommy down, Michael," His mother pleaded but Michael's face soon turned to disgust.

"I want you to die loving me, mother and I'm glad you will. I don't want you to ruin this only good memory I have of you. I want your love to be unconditional and this is the only way," Michael blurted out before his mother could speak.

She crumpled in on herself, her body twisting in the most unnatural positions, the echoing sounds of her bones cracking and her muffled screams for her innards had ruptured.

Blood leaked from every unrestricted hole in her body, spilling onto the ground. Michael clenched his fist and she imploded like a bag of water.

"You can no longer disappoint me, mother," Michael's final act was because this would be the last time anybody in this neighborhood would see him again.
