A New Beginning!

Firefighters rushed to the scene, this was a rare occurrence and they only came here because the fire risked spreading all over the place.

They were surprised such a wildfire could originate from a little house, Edward was just returning home. The blinding light and furious heat met Edward and in his path, a crowd of people gathered around like they were watching a play.

Edward didn't see which house was on fire and thought another explosion had occurred but this was partly because he didn't have a clear view, not until he made his way past a certain portion of the crowd.

"MICHAEL!" Edward fought his way through the crowd and tried to charge into the house but he was stopped by a firefighter.

"MY BROTHER IS THERE!" Edward screamed, he had lost his mom and now it was looking like he might have lost his best friend. Edward blamed himself, but he didn't want to jump to conclusions just yet.

The raging fire combated with the water being sprayed, and eventually, the fire was quenched after a long battle spanning over forty minutes but when the firefighters rushed in.

What they saw in the house was two bodies, it was no doubt that these were the body of a woman and a boy but it was not possible to identify them as of yet.

The two bodies were carted away and Edward was hysterical, he screamed and laughed like a madman, he was in denial. There was no way Michael could be dead, and Edward blamed himself.

In less than twenty-four hours, he had lost everything and the emptiness that came with this was insufferable, he momentarily thought about ending it all.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" A man questioned Michael in a car, watching the scene unfold, Michael saw Edward for the last time as he turned to James and said.

"The Michael the world knows died today. I know that I am a monster that will keep killing but you're my first step to mastering this hunger…" Michael said sternly, James noticed he was far more serious as opposed to the carefree attitude he displayed when they met earlier.

"Besides, I know you would never truly live your life if I remained. I thought I was helping you but in reality, I was the one holding you back, Edward…" Michael's inner thoughts showed a level of understanding of what Edward had to sacrifice for him.

"I'm glad I managed to get the body double in time or we would have been found out," James said but Michael kept quiet.

He had just killed his mom and the adrenaline he felt at that moment was something he never thought possible and he was eager to recreate this feeling.

James was glad that he had cast away his past because, with this, he now had full access to Michael but judging from what Michael told him about his powers.

Michael could 'learn' the powers of others by studying their brains, an ability James himself had never heard but it looked like an extreme variant of mimicry.

"What do you want to do next?" James questioned, he was checking to see if the boy had any personal goals of his own but Michael didn't answer and instead, began his dialogue.

"The villain that I acquired his ability introduced himself as The Slasher…" Michael said; Damon was the only one that knew he was an imposter. For Michael, this was the first time he had heard anything about the man.

"The Slasher?" James repeated after him, the car had long left the scene. Michael nodded his head to confirm this.

"Hahaha! That is impossible!" James brushed it off with certainty, and Michael was surprised by this because this was also the first time he had heard James laugh.

"What is funny?" Michael asked but he didn't get any response from James as the car soon came to a halt.

The doors popped open and both of them stepped out of the car. Michael found himself in a vast compound but he found that he wasn't the only one there.

"He cannot be The Slasher because my father is dead," James responded to Michael's question as he began to walk away.

"That wasn't as dramatic as you thought it was! Why didn't you just answer the question in the freaking car!" Michael thought to himself because he didn't want to offend James as he was his boss.

He was guided into a building but the building looked like just any normal house so Michael assumed this to be James' home; it was weird if it was because there was no way James would bring him.

Michael stepped one foot into the house and his jaw dropped, the space inside looked endless, there was no way in hell that this was possible.

"I know, I had that same reaction when I first entered here," James said, this was a pocket dimension that was as big as a high school, with not only multiple classrooms but a dorm separated by gender and a big room for combat training was at the center, it was a big as a football stadium.

"Is this where I would be staying?" Michael was excited by the prospect and James nodded his head, but he saw he wasn't the only one, he met a dark-skinned boy walking casually in the open space across him and into a room without even sparing him a glance. Michael glared at him but James was quick to warn the young man.

"If you want to live, do not provoke him," This was all James said right before concluding with,

"Welcome to your new life Michael."

"I no longer go by Michael, I go by The Void," Michael responded.

"Yeah…. No, I don't know what that is but we're definitely not calling you that." James responded sternly; he had loosened up around Michael because Michael became valuable merchandise with this power he had shown but this would start a new chapter in his life.

Author here, I could have easily tossed the protagonist into this phase of the story from the beginning but I had to address imported part of his story in terms of his past.

This isn't going to be a fast paced story either.
