CHAPTER 13

The sun rose high the next day. Never was a night this long and scary for the humans who were living their life in considerable luxuries.

The apocalypse that was descended upon them yesterday had now subsided to a little extent.

The humans once again proved themselves and came up on top as the top predator.

But everything wasn't rainbows either. There could still be sounds of fighting heard in the distance.

Humans numbered around 8 billion and the demons who invaded them counted in the mere 10s of millions. It was estimated to be around 70 - 130 million.

The losses on the human side according to official sources? It was estimated to be around 2 billion across the globe.

The streets were deserted , the animals massacred , both wild and domestic . The streets although deserted were filled with corpses.

People who were minding their own business, who fought with the demons , who were trying to escape this god forsaken rock , everyone's body littered the street.

Karthikeyan was sitting atop the ledge of now gone 20th floor of a high-rise building sipping on his tea filled in a cup which he would occasionally refill from a thermal flask he used for keeping the tea.

He heard someone walking towards him, he turned around a bit and seeing a familiar figure walking towards him , he let out some breath and went back to seeing the beautiful scenery that was right in front of him .

Well not including the smokes coming out of buildings, it was definitely a beautiful scenery that could move anyone and invoke positive vibes in them thought.

The thing here was , he never got a chance to see this scenery when everything was peaceful and calm. He was actually seeing it when nearly 25 percent of humanity were wiped out from the face of extinction.

The familiar figure approached him and sat besides him.

Karthikeyan looked at Yerilia , who after letting out a yawn looked at him.

" Want some tea?" asked Karthikeyan

"What tea ?"

"Just your ordinary everyday tea imported from Assam."

"no thanks."

"You don't like like it ?"

"Nah I don't like tea in general."

"What do you like then?"

"Juices , especially orange juice."

Realisation struck Karthikeyan . Yesterday Yerilia had been drinking her orange juice with such happiness which then made him question if someone could actually enjoy drinking their favourite drink as much Yerilia enjoyed it.

No one talked for 2 minutes . They just sat there , looking at their surroundings . They honestly didn't know what to talk to the other person. They just met the other day. Karthikeyan again this time broke the silence.

" You sure , you got enough sleep last night?"

Yerilia turned her head to look at him. Those eyes that were looking at her , she just couldn't get over the fact that someone could have this kind of beautiful or in other words mesmerising eyes.

She had seen models on TikTok , YouTube and all but no one eyes were mesmerising as Karthikeyan .

Yesterday as they were walking around , she came to know that his name was Karthikeyan . Somehow when she told him her name that day , he didn't appear as though he was hearing her name for the first time . She had a tinge feeling that he already knew his name . "But , how ?" she pondered and pondered but alas couldn't come at a conclusion.

She came out of the reverie caused by his eyes and told him that she was fine and could go on just fine.

"Thats good , but no need to expend yourself too much " he began " Most of the demons in Balka have been exterminated , just a few scattered around"

"How do you know?" she asked curiously.

The news channels indeed told that the demons were 80 percent eradicated across the globe and probably only the top demons remained. The demons deployed in India were too few compared to most of the western world.

The western world also had more talented individuals , with some reaching level 14 in a single day . They seemed to have talents that increased their experience points received in battle.

But the news channel in particular didn't cover much about Balka and she was pretty sure that no news of the demons being reduced in numbers were reported.

Again Karthikeyan couldn't reveal that he used his keen senses to sense the number of demons in the city.

"Look around you, no sounds are heard. That means we can safely assume the demons are reduced in number."

Yerilia couldn't proceed further with the conversation . Everything just felt unreal . She was pretty sure everyone felt the same way. Also she never expected that she would be teamed up with a boy of her age that was straight up insane.

This man yesterday had single - handedly wiped more than 40 demons without beating a sweat. Yes she had count the actual number of demons he had killed .

She also levelled to level 7 as she killed a lot as well. Well it was mostly due to the final hit she dealt to the demons after Karthikeyan had weakened them.

One only gained experience after they deal the final hit to the demon themselves. Even if they damage the demon significantly but didn't finish it , they wouldn't get the exp.

The same could be said for parties. Even though there were many benefits of joining a party with only some of them known at the moment , like tracking the general position of your party mates , it didn't provided shared exp as opposed to popular notations.

The experience needed for levels from level 8 to level 14 and possibly beyond that according to her knowledge didn't exactly increase twice fold as they did for level 1 to level 7 . Thats why Karthikeyan levelled up easily and the top humans in the world were currently nearing the 15 level mark.

Even though levelling became somewhat easy , that fact that Karthikeyan was an absolute beast , definitely a one in a million couldn't be ignored.

She began considering her notion of staying away from him even more to avoid more problems.

" Well that settles it . " Karthikeyan told her standing up "We will be moving out at 8 am . Be prepared " he then left her alone and went to do his warm ups so he could be prepared today.

Yerilia didn't want to lag behind either , she stood up as well and went to a free space to do her warm up as well. A new world and many adventures awaited her and she wanted to be the heroine of all her adventures. As for the hero , she didn't need one , well at least for now.
