Mc is clever missing the first shot to make others unsure if he was lucky next or if it was skill. If he won with his first strike he would get too much pressure and attention so completely missing to make it seem like he can make mistakes will cause them to doubt if he is really skilled or not. Makes sense as in this village or others it is ingrained into them that the higher talent is better so they naturally will assume it is luck or other excuses if possible so mc just had to make it not too incredible with the first shot missing to create a situation that can still be explained as luck. The author may explain it next chapter but I like it when not everything is spelled out letting the readers read between the lines. I like it so far how nothing feels overly explained or repeated.

I think I got it. He deliberately missed so that no one could say for sure if it was luck or not. So if anyone starts thinking his progress is too fast, there's no proof back it. He gets the prize, and avoids showing a flaw. Wow, I love how I'm not being handled with kid gloves by the author (❂◡❂)

Everyone here you are misunderstanding something. An A rank talent is not found every three years, The only A rank talent in the whole clan is Gu yue fang zheng. The last A rank talent was the current clan's patriarch, it is very very rare to find a A rank talent in this remote clan.
