I'm thinking that maybe the protagonist has airbending, and will eventually pretend to use fire like Roy Mustang the gloves generate sparks, the airbending concentrates the oxygen in a path and thus will generate the impression that he actually used fire, it seems interesting, but I could simply be wrong
