That will be a political disaster......but so what? Currently no one can go against Robert, and its not like anyone else would be brave enough to put their head as the new leader of the ironborn. So in the end it will be just old people complaining........and history has changed with a Stark taking control over the iron islands. Wonder if Ned would still give moat Cailin to Damian as a foothold in westeros? (And a defense barrier against the south)

Those islands are just barren rock where you can't grow anything. Its a very bad deal. Also he already promised most of the people that worked there to take them back to the mainland so is he now going to tell them to forget about it and stay there. Most people won't want to settle on the iron islands.
