“Unless a miracle happens, merry will eventually die” Probably foreshadowing of merry eating the root fruit, which while interesting would also be dumb for multiple reasons. 1: an item eating a devil fruit was only made possible by vegapunks genius so it definitely can’t be something that can just happen under normal circumstances and probably requires super special machines to be done that only Vegapunk is likely to know how to build and operate 2: if the merry isn’t destroyed then Franky has no reason to make the sunny since they would already have a ship 3: even if franky makes the sunny anyway they would still have to leave the merry behind because the crew isn’t big enough to man 2 different ships at the same time 4: no the devil fruit wouldn’t make the merry able to sail itself because it’s not a zoan and only a zoan fruit would likely let an item manipulate itself, and the ship spirit usopp saw wouldn’t be able to sail the ship either since if it could then it would be able to do so even without a devil fruit since it was once seen helping repair the ship that one time meaning it was already able to physically interact with stuff at that point

To be honest, it's starting to feel like Liam is the captain. He's making a lot of the decisions that dictate the crews direction. It's stupid when the title is literally "Vice captain of the straw hats".
