Hydreigon (darkness and dragon), Tyranitar (darkness and rock), sharpedo (darkness and water), Malamar (darkness and psy), Houndoom (darkness and fire), Shiftry (darkness and leaf). A type balanced in type, capacity ans combat potential.

I suggest majority of dark type and some others like dragon, to show his mother's side of lineage and fire, ice and such.

I feel like Zorua would be a great starter, I can feel that the bond that they could develop in the future can be incredibly deep. For the other Pokémon, Honchcrow is a really cool one quite possibly the most swag out there, not to mention it is able to counter bug and fighting Pokémon. Bisharp is a good choice in the case of fairy type Pokémon, also very swag. Absol is a fan favorite Pokémon with a good mega evolution, I also love it's design. Maybe late story when he gets strong he could train a Hydreigon as those are very powerful dark dragon Pokémon. As for the final Pokémon maybe you could set up an event in where he could catch a Darkrai.

Dieno ,spiritoomb and larvitar the rest I leave to you. spiritoomb would be great story wise he could find a key stone and not realise it was a Pokemon till later

i think majority should be dark but if he finds some Pokémon's with a good potential without been dark type, he should catch it

why do you have to limit him to 6 pokemon it doesn't make sense you can technically get every good dark type and creat multiple teams

Hydregion, tyranitar, greninja, absol, Zoroark, are my top 5 some other cool dark types being darkrai, urshifu, grimsnarl, Bisharp, krookodile, honchkrow, umbreon and I could see any of them being his 6th Pokémon or substitutes if he has more then 6.
