Crazy Theory time: Ok. Sunny is unique when compared to other characters in that he had a Shadow Core, has Shadow Essence and absorbs Shadow Fragments. Instead of a Soul Core, he has a Shadow core. Meaning, let's say his soul has now become a shadow. But a Shadow cannot exist without something causing it, that's why his Innate Ability is Shadow Bond. Alright? Stay with me till now. When others kill creatures or humans, they absorb soul fragments. High tier humans or low tier creatures with more cores give more soul fragments. But what about Sunny? We know he doesn't absorb shadow caused by the physical bodies of creatures he kills since others would have noticed that. What does he absorb? Shadow fragments. Maybe the soul cores of creatures and humans creates a 'Shadow' in their Soul sea. That's what Sunny absorbs. But then the question is, what is the light source that would cause the shadow? The spell. Maybe this light represents the control of the Spell over souls of the people. Now, Light links to the Sun God. Who is Sun God's descendant? Neph. And what does she want to do? Destroy the spell, meaning to destroy the Spell's light which is controlling our cores. See the connection? If the light from the spell is gone, everyone would lose their power, cuz they don't actually know how anything works, atleast that's how its shown till now. Sunny instinctively knows how to teleport using 'Shadow Step', or turn incorporeal using shadows. But how would he turn corporeal, returning every single quark, sub atomic and atomic particles to how their exact location with his body exploding or crumbling without the spell? Ok? they'd need another energy source or information source for this. But, Sunny wouldn't face this problem since his soul, which is a shadow now, is caused by Nephis's soul, because of their shadow bond. My guess is Sunny end is to kill whatever is left after Nephis shatters the Spell. The Next part of my theory. From what we know, there were six gods and seven daemons. War god was suppressing the Shadow God. Now, what I say next is just my assumption that would be on the basis of whatever we have read till now. Imagine the gods and daemons had a Fallout. The fight between gods led to daemons taking power and they had sealed them somehow. Now, the Gods are known as the Fallen. The seven daemons worked together to create the Spell which is now used to seal the six gods. How does the spell get power? But controlling souls using its light, whenever any soul under its light perishes, it takes a part of that soul's energy thus fueling the Spell seal. The dream realm gives the humans or creatures to get stronger, thus strengthening their soul, which would become juicier when harvested. That's why all the places Sunny has travelled to till now has been devastated. I think, like in BOTDS, the spell employs some powerful humans to work for it to fatten the pigs before killing them. I think, this is what happened to Broken Sword, Neph's father and his party. They somehow found out about this, but Aster, Song and Vale surrendered to the Spell and killed Broken Sword. That's also why Nephis disdains when other people surrender to the Spell. The next point, Would the Gods take it lying down? No. And I think their counter-attack is selecting suitable people from the Humans and making them power up using the Spell to kill the Spell. Basis: Neph-> Sun God's descendant; Had to break out of her illusion dream in first nightmare, Sunny-> Child of Shadows; Had to survive against a Tyrant in the First Nightmare. And other Six. Think about it, the Spell is similar to Neph's dream, it is creating an illusion of giving them power, and her trial is to see if she can break it. Sunny's trial is to gauge his treachery, which is mentioned many times. His character, similar to how Shadow God is described, staying at the back, taking himself out of the centre of attention.
