No! Thatâs how Nephis is planning to return isnât it? Sheâs going to make a sacrifice of the thousands of Sleepers in the Dark City to push the corruption back enough that she and a few others can escape. Either that, or she is going to try and use some other method to force the Shard wielders to sacrifice themselves for her cause. Thatâs why she said she needed Sunless and other strong people; the stronger they are, the more likely for her plan to succeed.
I think Sunny needs to get off his high horse a little and learn that for some choices, even cruel ones are preferable to letting the alternative choice occur. It's fine to not like lots of people dying but this was the only path these people envisioned to save their world. If it takes them sacrificing themselves and several thousand others to do it then so be it, in my opinion. Unfortunate that the peace and prosperity they created only lasted a few hundred years perhaps but I'm sure those who led good lives during those times would be grateful! Some chapters back it was said, "Sunny was determined to show the world what he was really made of. He was going to win. He was going to be the last one standing. No matter what he had to do. ...Even if doing it would break him." This kind of mindset should maybe help him understand Neph and the seven heroes better, even if Sunny's is perhaps a bit more selfish.
