Most of these "bad things" weren't "openly" said in canon, after all it is a teenager story, but most of them were strongly implied. Anyway even seeing bith Hiruzen and/or Minato either as tyrannical, or simply thinking in the "greater good" or the "least bad", both canon and most fanfics forget several plotholes. For example the Senju's matter; If Danzo and others had had the power to "discreetly" kill all of them, already quite uncredible, they would have done with the Uchihas; or Naruto's treatment, it has many situations where the seal almost break, and some fanfics where finally break and destroy Konoha
