too cliched. for a whole year he is very careful about revealing his powers. suddenly he is transported to a strange place and time. he doesn't gather intelligence to figure out what happened. he doesn't take time to carefully plan his next steps. he's just going perform to a big audience his powers trying to hide it as magic.
