I think it was a little cheap, because with an orphan's subsidy you can buy an incredible 10 kg of meat per month and still have money for vegetables. Of course, you can attest that the different groups (I mean ninja academy enrollment and how there were 3 groups) earn different amounts, which would make sense.

MC chakra affinity is wind but that still mean learning lightning and fire style jutsu will be far easier than learning water or earth style jutsu.

I do hope mc doesn't stay low key. Being low key is fine if you already have resources to get strong. But if you don't have those, only way you can get resources is by showing and using your skills. Maybe he could alsy try to set up some business. Obviously it has it's risks, but really staying cannon fodder is just as bad.

No surprise in what the chakra paper shows for his affinity since he has been doing nature transformation training. They're so sensitive that even untrained passive chakra can cause the effects that he has spent months training his chakra to do on solid wood. I'd imagine whatever his natural affinity is (if it isn't wind) can't even register through wind chakra anymore.
