I think that this was for the best. Snape was stuck between a rock and a hard place, especially since the Narcisa vow had no end point. This forced Snape to forever watch out and guard Draco which literally forced him to side with Draco whom was involved with Voldemort, and that isn't even counting vows made to the Dark Lord and Dumbledore too. Snape was a triple spy. For the Dark Lord, For He who has too many names Headmaster, and to himself. Without the guilt of Lilly Potter's death weighing on him, his motivation for a positive outcome was incredibly bleak. If there was any real loyalty to Dumbledore with oaths made to him, then under the instruction that Draco should not be harmed regardless of anything, gave Snape the opportunity to try to Kill Dumbledore while staying inside of the Headmasters plans. So if Snape does manage to kill Dumbledore, then all vows associated with Dumbledore would be Null en Void, as it was within the Headmaster's instruction. Thus freeing Snape from a lot of restrictions on that side, but still forever vowed to protect Draco, thus forcing him to the Dark Lord. This isn't even considering all the Vows made to the Dark Lord too. Snape's death here was the best choice. Lets hope Quinn can pull out of this depression.
