Tbh/Imo, I'm not sure it's the dark tone that's affecting readers or more so like posting/seeing new chapters. I think that when daily/weekly/etc. updates start decreasing, books tend to get lost in people's book history, since they're not getting notifications that there's been updates, etc. As another commenter noted, this app is saturated with books, so people usually fill their reading list with other novels as they're waiting for other books to update. Also, since Webnovel shows readers when books were last updated, I think some readers may be hesitant to subscribe if they see a novel hasn't been updated in a while (bc they're worried that maybe the book is on hiatus or permanently stopped updating or otherwise). Granted, I totally understand that you need to take a break from writing sometimes, and should, but what I'm trying to say is don't get discouraged that the lack of Subs has to do with your actual story or writing style. It could be from another reason (as mentioned above) and is not bc people no longer like how your story is going. So please don't feel like you should stop writing your story bc you think that it may not be good anymore! 😊
Honestly speaking this app is pretty saturated, imo if u keep the quality high and maybe make a few changes since u said u werent happy with parts. you could try uploading On less saturated apps or ones that provide better exposure. Sadly darker or more mature stories tend to Appeal to more mature people and they arenT the maJority in most reading apps.
I hope you don’t abandon this book. The world building is amazing and character designs are so unique!!! The story is really well written and the plot sucks you in. I’d be willing to buy a paperback version if one ever exists. I hope you take into consideration that a lot of people also like to take a break and then binge read in chunks when things get angsty so that could play some part on the matter.
Deleted the comment as my touchscreen is really acting up. I don’t think the issue is with your novel, but more the recent changes to the app hence making the overall viewship being down. There are many authors that are no longer updating their series so I respect if you do, but it’ll be a great shame as this series is one of two that I come to this app for.
