Why do I get the feeling this 'brother' may have been a split personality of the mc in his first life that imprinted as a guiding figure for the main personality I.e. the mc into his new life.

The quality of the English seems to be taking a few steps back in this chapter. Also, his relationship with his brother sounds like it was downright obsession.
