Why use the name of another fanfic tho?

so cliche, still how did the Potters end up in blood relationship with Gryffindor and what the hell does conquest mean? It's not like he did defeat Salazar or something. I often see how authors of different fanfics use this without any basis. Even so, if he can claim Gryffindor's vault rights why didn't his father did so, or his grandfather or something?
