i think this chapter is set up for Jake to receive his second soul class! The world of the 4th ordeal is making him "stupider" to give him one. The author's note is a smokescreen!

i think its normal that jake has a hard time with that type of battle, in every ordeal he was always at the top 5 characters with strong soul, so he could absorb the aether with his soul without fear of being attacked, but now the enemy is extremly fast and the soul of nearly every enemy is stronger than him.
