For today I will present you cancer. And some info surrounding it. Together with cardiovascular diseases it is the most prevalent cause of death in the western world. Cancer is a nasty little critter characterized amongst other things by: Limitless number of cell division, (continuous) cell growth and division without proper signals, avoidance of programmed cell death, promotion of blood vessel construction and invasion of foreign tissue and formation of metastasis. Cancer is a genetic disease. It stems from the fact that our DNA is altered to such an extent, that our cells lose their original purpose. These genetic defects can have many reasons. They can be environmental such as pollution, background radiation and sun rays. They can be lifestyle dependent such as smoking and alcohol. By the way obesity also increases the risk of getting cancer. Also infection with Hepatitis B and C, HIV, HPV and EBV can cause cancer (those are all viruses). You can also inheret genetic defects. Lastly old age, so the accumulation of genetic defects simply because time passed and your cells divided, is a big reason. In the end getting cancer or not, is a roll of the dice. It can be influenced by our decisions but that's the only deciding factor. **: I said cancer, but in reality it is a set of diseases classified under this general name. So todays fact was a little... dark maybe? For some people probably. My personal opinion is that we all should live life like we want (as long as we don't bother other people to much, I mean a little loud music sometimes and a little argument here and there are no degradation of anyone's life, if it is... I'm sorry). We should treasure our health, but god damn it drink your beer if you want, smoke your cigarette if you want and eat your mc Donald's if you want. Living life should not about preventing to be ill. I am very sorry if you of any of your loved ones have suffered or are suffering from cancer or any disease. Health is a fickle thing, such as life.
