curiosity questions: 1. why does every Webnovel author I've ever read use the word revolt instead of rebel? it doesn't flow correctly in most instances and feels wrong. 2. what word is this author trying to use every time he uses the word pursue incorrectly? I know I should be able to substitute what he is trying to say, but for some reason it seems like he's using it place of multiple meanings that it doesn't really fit.
Oh yeah. That use of "pursue" to replace "follow" or "carry on" was a bad habit I picked up and dropped years ago for reasons I don't remember. It is not incorrect, per se, but bad writing for sure. As for "revolt" being archaic, that's correct. Today I'd argue that in a formal war context, it can still play a role and add gravity to the situation. That aside, yeah, it doesn't make for fluid writing. As for why WN authors prefer it, I don't know. Maybe they also speak French, in which case it makes perfect sense. But judging from my inkstone data, French isn't a common second language here.
DraskelClan:1. Revolt vs Rebel: while true that the definitions are interchangeable, that definition is an archaic use of Revolt. Its common use now is more related to Disgusting, which is why it feels strange that almost every author I've read on Webnovel uses it in places where Rebel would be clearer and not have the unrelated connotation. 2. Pursue. I suppose this one bothers me when you use it to describe the continuation of conversation. Multiple times a character will say something that has nothing to do with chasing that will the be followed by something like "Konrad Pursued" instead of "Continued".
