This was absolutely necessary even if it hurts. She already couldn't accept herself she killed a man in self-defense who tried to force himself on her, how is she supposed to accept a man who has killed billions and in the future will probably kill billions more(she'd probably break up with him if she found out he was behind the mutated HIV). She is young and has plenty of room to grow, but if she knew the true Virus she probably wouldn't be able to accept him currently, until she grows to be able to accept both his good and bad this is needed.
