Exlor
I've been reading this comment section and my emotions are just WILD! Like, I'm so pissed at Ark. He just came along and he's already bulling his way through everything. If I was Ves, I would outright take back my word of making a good mech for him. Arc just wants to relive the Glory days of the Bright-Vesia Wars. And what the heck was Calabast doing while Davute was sneaking around? She needs to be fired Ong, but there'll be no one to take over her post. Maybe a heavy cut in budget because she was basically useless where she was supposed to be at her best! And oh Lord, the people supporting Ark and the rest, I have nothing to say because I'll probably lose any argument. But I am totally against Ark's decision to meddle in Ves' choices all of a sudden. We didn't need him before and we don't need him now! It's not as if he's fighting with the expeditionary fleet anyway
Reading the comments actually changed my mind, lol. Yea, let the branch clan be independent in terms of government but control the finance. Discard the excess and lesser expert mech to focus on the ones that stayed. that way, when ves becomes a 1st class, he won't have to spend a lot of money to upgrade everyone to first-class mech only the clan fleet. this way, they can upgrade the quality of the fleet with larkisons who share ves vision. (Leave Gloriana at the branch too, so she can become an acceptable sacrifice if they lose the war. ) that last one is just a suggestion.
I guess I understand Exlor/Aurelia's argument here. Grow the side branches to ensure that they don't need the Larkinson clan fleet to come and pull then out of trouble. Adopt that branch strategy into the other areas of the RODG and Ves can exert some soft power to influence the governments if each system.
No matter what happens, this is an effective plot device. If the characters are developed well (like calabast getting fired or something) then it should shape up to be a very interesting arc. I'm kind of hoping karlac and the unrelenting pummel the state brutally to fuel Ves's confirmation bias. But I also want to eventually see a genius mech designer alone and estranged from his organization again.
This is also a good route to remove some of the more useless expert mechs. unfortunately the riot and the cman are both kind of pointless lately. Tho I wonder what the mechs are thinking about leaving their creator’s side. That being said, I don’t understand this talk about the fleet being “too big.” pretty sure every battle except for the one with the starship, they have wanted more mechs.
I think the Clan would be well served by putting branches in the LOWER zones as well. How many others in the clan have enough Merits to purchase "pioneer status" at the 3rd class level? And how many of those people have not been disqualified yet by acquiring "2nd Class citizenship"? After all - Ves's dp is utterly dominant at the 3rd Class level! It might be easier to gain premium spaces in Middle Zones if they are already dominant in the allied Lower Zone groups. And Splintering the Clan further by immediately setting up more Branches will allow Ves to give a diplomatic middle finger to Duvalt.
i like the idea of side branches and main branches while the main branch rises to a 1st class power the side branches will stay at 2nd class power MTA wont allow 1st class powers in the middle zones so i think what's gonna happen is side branches will be locked at a 2nd class power while the main fleet will eventually rise to 1st class power and whenever a side branch pilot wants to advance even further they are gonna have to join the main fleet
There is only one thing of import on this split. Will Dise leave the fleet with Orfan? They have been set up as a duo but Dise is a monster hunter and pirate by heart while Orfan is a soldier. All else is just politics. Don't get me wrong, I love the politics but what I love more is some good old mech fighting.
