It isn't good for them to remember but the appeal here is that those important were close to him (bibi dong excluded for now) making it much simpler for him when he is near them irl. It gave a lifetime of feeling to them, very hard to erase and simultaneously put them on his side. Imagine in a simulation you go through an intergalactic war with a buddy for years then the buddy died saving you and later you die. Then you wake up in reality and see him, you would naturally have very complex feeling for this loyal friend and if you are not ungrateful you may help him as much as possible. It is a very advanced form of brainwashing, using experiences, feeling and a lifetime of understanding of a person that make you very close to them especially if in the simulation you lost them and had to live without them which would be very painful.
