I can see why the first chapter could make people uncertain about continuing the novel. First chapter is a little awkward in the way it's done, but after that, it's pretty good, enough that you forget that first chapter. I feel like the pace is good and that it's interesting enough to keep reading. If I had one thing to improve, it would probably be the dialogue, but since I'm reviewing this early on, it's probably already fixed. Chapter one and chapter two is day and night, so chapter 70+ should be even better.
