Why are the reviews so high? I tried it out, but honestly can't understand the positive reviews. All I see is constant, like literally constant, fat shaming and racist thoughts about dark skin colours. The FL seems callous and shallow, and I really don't like her. Most important reason for my bad review is that the novel contains gRape. This time the author was 'creative', FL gRapes the ML. Yay for feminism? FL decided after figuring out she gRaped him that she does not want to follow the plot and wants to reject him. However, when he sees he is handsome, she says nothing. Standard Chinese novel gRape-setting, only difference is this time FL is not the victim... Translation quality is top notch. If you like a transmigrated, farming FL, I suppose you can try it out, but I personally cannot recommend it.

I'm not promoting fat shaming because tbh I'm chubby myself. But I do get where the author is coming from. This is most likely a translation and when it comes to certain ancient Asian cultures, being relatively thin - not skin and bones - was considered fashionable. The same goes for dark skin. If one had fairer skin, it meant they didn't have to work under the sun aka being rich. also we cannot forget that we're talking about an 80s setting story. You cannot place modern ideologies into ancient setting. It might offend quite a few but it would be culturally inappropriate.

mostly accurate, except for the fact that she did in fact try to keep from trapping him in marriage even after seeing he was handsome. But he was like "I did the thing and I'm the one who initiated the rest of the rounds so HONOR DEMANDS" (very much hand waving the assault *sigh*). and it's not racism, it's more like colorism. Bias against people of one's own race due to how dark they are (often due to reasons of socioeconomic classes in this context).

I am from western Europe, and we honestly love getting tanned. When I first started reading c novels I just could not understand the obsession with white skin. it really does relate to the culture/economy you live in. for us, getting tanned means you got sun, which is expensive (holidays abroad). I now understand that in Asia tanning is not a thing, not even on the beach. it is a great culture shock, let me tell you, haha

the OG fl is the who gRape the ml. The (mostly) Asian beauty standard is having pale skin and skinny. It's not surprising anymore if you live here (East asian & South Asian countries). You can see it in most of the chinese novels here. However, a lot of young people now starting to embrace and love their tanned skin.

i understand this, but from what i remember FL was a modern girl. regardless, i don't like novels with r*pe and fat shaming to such a degree, whether the setting is ancient, fantasy or modern

well then, that's a personal opinion. I would advise you to skip these scenes or books altogether. But then again too many books have these plot lines. And it isn't like modern times don't habe these issues. There's still fat shaming in the world; oftentimes from members of families of the person. Not to mention rapes. It's not like you could close your eyes against it. It's there in the world and that's a fact. Literature is but a reflection of the world in some form. One cannot always turn a blind eye towards things one doesn't like. I do respect your views and way of things. I'm just saying that these things would exist regardless.

I gained a lot when I left for college because hostel food wasn't that great and I would eat out. I gained like 6 kg in less than a month. Bit for health reasons I've started working on losing weight. I'm done with my mother telling me day in and day out to lose weight. Like, darling, you see me working on it so stop talking about it now. She does begin with "Don't mind but..." If you know I'm going to mind, don't say it, please.
