Solid. Really solid, I mean like steel in its solid form solid. The pacing was the first thing I noticed. It's so fine, you'll miss your bus if you try to read in a "hurry" since the author drops the characterization and the world background in all the right places. I don't remember reading about mecha before and this set the bar so high that I won't remember any mecha books after this one, either. The sudden surge towards greater power is well executed and the plot feels real. I have nothing to complain about. Again, pacing, characterization, plot, world background, all on point. I wanted to find stuff to complain about. I didn't. This deserved the WPC win.
