It could be either a comedic novel which is decently good or a total trash novel like the one you described

arrogant young master, faceslapping, forced romance - none of that appeared in 20 chpters, its pretty good and have that pokemon feel as mc trains his weak caterpie into a gyrados

I've read more than 200 chapters and surprise surprise, THERE'S NO ARROGANT YOUNG MASTER. Well, there is that one minor character in the tournament that I thought going to become one, but he quickly became MC's fan after getting beaten. There's none of those revenge after being humiliated stuff (Yet, hopefully not). There's also no romance in these 200 chapters. Every time there's a jade beauty, the first thing the MC focuses on is ALWAYS their soul pets. I like the MC because of that lol.
