Seriously, what is so cool about being "low key?" The dude literally kept getting underestimated by his parents(who are actually really supportive of him, but because he never seemed outstanding they didn't expect much from him). He kept hiding his strength from them when there was no reason to. The worry he caused them was unnecessary. And the "I'll give them a surprise" was a weak excuse. Aside from all that, this novel is quite alright. I actually like it. I just find it irksome where the mc's in all these novels want to be "low-key" for some dumb reason.

Hey, I’ve read WBMR before and loved it. Can you recommend anything similar?

GrandpaPeng:It has lifelike characters and most importantly characters that can be considered heroes of their era with a considerable chunk of MC halo on them. When MC was at his lower martial ranks it was them who shined on the stage. The dude who is his protection umbrella is also an example of a character with MC halo, but I don't want to spoil. Have fun!

Wow. So this is why the author let the mc keep his cultivation a secret for no reason. Seriously these authors will do anything to these novels without thinking. I feel it's even worse with this novel because it's actually an alright read seeing such a plot point being used in such a stupid way is just irritating. So. When you're talented it makes your life easier. You show your talent and get groomed by some major figure. It'd be a even better for the mc with his system. But no. The mc wanted his family to see he was powerful so Instead of showing his actual strength, he pretended to be weaker and put on a show to kill a weak martial warrior. He was already 3 star. Then he went to school. Instead of telling them his actual level he pretended to be weaker. At this point it's obvious that the author had him keep his cultivation a secret so that he can use it for comedy and faceslapping. I like the novel but.....I hate this "I need to hide my cultivation level" or "I need to be low-key" or "I need to remain ignoble" that we see so much in like 90% of new novels. Any of those lines normally cause me to drop novels.

You should check out World's Best Martial Artist then. It's the best novel of 2020 for me (the worst thing was the very beginning because it sounded real cheap), but others might like Lord of Mysteries more. MC in WBMA doesn't act low key, he's the opposite, even though he was told to stay low key so that he doesn't get dissected and researched. He's high key to the point that the otherworld powerhouses know his cheat abilities, pay attention to his whereabouts, oh and he gets attracting more and more of those who care more about killing him than everything else. His plot armor are Earth/China powerhouses but even they get less and less, his umbrella is a strong dude who can be considered ~top10 or higher counting both worlds, excluding those who are hidden. WBMA is a better version of Complete Martial Arts Attributes and as far as I know it shares the universe with 2 other books by the author, connecting some stuff between them from what I have heard (Constellation Door is the third one, apparently it represents "the present", it was in trial read not so long ago, now with 206 chap and a rating 4.46. WBMA apparently represents "the past". I'm not sure if the order matters but if it does then WBMA should prolly be read first.

Thank you, I will give this a try. I just find it annoying how most of the newer novels have the main characters "being low key" for no reason at all. It doesn't add much to the story, since they don't give the mc a reason to be low key, they just try it because some people seem to find it cool. If they could give an actual reason then it'd make sense. Tbh an mc who doesn't hide and is pretty high key(he doesn't have to show all his secrets, just be a normal(?) person) but that will make the plot flow more naturally since we have people who will be coming at him for some reason or another. In novels with low key Mc's the issues normally seem pretty forced, and they are normally filled with faceslapping.
