Author says MC's main goal is freedom, yet is currently making him a slave to his mothers sect. Everything he says gets ignored and he is being forced into a position he doesn't want by people he doesn't like. All the while the mother and her family act like he doesn't hate them. This has gotten so much worse.

I don't know which novel you read. At no point is mc forced into anything. They give him the option. If they had obliged him, they would have taken his freedom. Did they do that at some point?
