if I had written this review before Evangeline was introduced, it would be much higher rated. I initially had high hopes for this novel, and for the first 200ish chapters, those hopes were mostly filled, until Evangeline was introduced. I would rather this character never have existed except for some background, as honestly she killed every bit of the story I liked so far, completely killed. If she was supposed to be some antagonist from the getgo, it would be different, but her relation to the mc is what killed it for me. after another nearly 40 chapters I'm ready to drop this as I have never had 1 character introduction make me start hating a book I initially liked. When I started I knew it was a tragedy, and at the start, I was like ok, awful beginning for mc, but it sets the tone, but now it's not just tragedy anymore, its fked up completely unnaturally and all thanks to 1 character, Evangeline.
