hello fellow Daoist, if I may say you should make some research on a novel before reading it, I mean i read many reviews of others and i found out that the novel is good at the beginning and it get a little bad for chapter 500 something like you said but that is because author was a bit new in these types of long novel so he makes some mistakes but from what the other reviewers says it is just that war arc that is bad all novel have some bad arcs .. I'm saying this because I saw your review is new and i don't want you to miss a gem because of a bad arc. .. just giving my opinion for you to continue reading if even than don't want to read it's ok. .. .bye

Chapters 300-700ish are definitely on the rough with a lot of time spent thinking and doing various low level things. That said learning abt ves's mindset is very important to allowing the rest of the story to flow more intuitively without extra time being spent to explain why he makes the choices me makes. As such I recommend waiting till 1k to drop if you still don't like it. As for his lack of use of his system, this is very intentional and its better to thing of the system as a shady character than a traditional system. In addition, compared usual systems much less is given for free making it harder to utilize. Lastly your comment about not making journeyman before 4k is flat out false. (Light spoiler) He reaches Journeyman somewhere in the low 1000's if memory serves and is currently making steady progress towards senior.

brother the arc is over 500 chapters long and adds nothing to the story. it's a filler arc larger than the novel at the time it was written. worse yet is dthe author dumps the system even after he gets it back. there's a diffrence between making a few mistakes as an author and completely neutering your novel because you don't want the mc to progress in power

he dosent progress past journeyman for over 4.5k chapters after he reaches it. I don't care what type of novel you write, if your mc makes no major leaps in "power" for 4.5 thousand chapters there's no reason to read. if this was a pure space opera instead of a system novel I'd agree but the author includes a system tag yet writes out. seems scummy to me
