I think their abilities and powers influence what weapons feel comfortable, so it's more about the feeling they get rather than having someone instruct or try to choose based on anything else.

considering it now it's actually not terrible. if he gave full scope- he can tame beasts and hatch them. then he gets physical buffs based on the pet, and can also use all of its skills. just considering those aspects, if he can pick up stronger and stronger pets with varied abilities/strengths, he would be able to power up like crazy and have a super diverse skill set.

this doesn't make sense to me either.

but he also didn't say anything about how he got a thought to tame a pet/didn't have a tamed pet, sucked a monster egg into another dimension in his mind, and started to hatch it. he is actively leaving out 90% of the info related to what his power is, and at that point it's basically lying about it.
