I’m not calling religion congitive dissonance (though it often involves a large amount of it, but that’s besides the point). When I said cognitive dissonance I was talking about how you encouraged me to go out and learn about other cultures and how they view things differently, yet you simultaneously reject homosexuality simply because it’s different than what you’re used to seeing, ergo cognitive dissonance or at the very least utter hypocrisy. And you say everything is peaceful in your country despite the homophobia, but would that really apply to someone in your country who is gay? Do you think they would describe it as peaceful? What do you think goes through their mind when they see other countries having LGBTQ rallies and Pride parades, yet their own homeland doesn’t show them one iota of support?
How you can manage the cognitive dissonance to be a globalist and a bigot at the same time I will never understand. Regardless, religions do not get magically destroyed when they go against common decency (e.g. the multiple Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition), and those religions not being eradicated doesn’t automatically give their members the moral or logical high ground.
There are actually “rules” that normal, well-adjusted people follow; they’re called common decency. And common decency says don’t be a homophobe. And I survive instagram by making fun of bigots, like I did with the excerpt above. It’s very cathartic.
I’m thinking this portion of the narration might be a little biased

I can kind of guess just based on how things have gone for the protag that his sister was probably the favorite and thus was trained extensively by their parents

…No I vehemently disagree with that take actually. If you find them annoying that’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it, but I think they’re supposed to be fundamentally flawed people, everybody in oregairu is. Yukino is one of the most compelling characters in a romcom I’ve ever seen, and if you get past the arrogant front and scathing banter you’ll find a fragile but lovely girl who just wants to be accepted for who she is. Yui is very similar but she goes with the flow instead of standing against it. I’d argue that Shizuka is the most annoying (although not very annoying and I still adore her) because half the time she’s mostly a gag character and does actually physically assault Hachiman, which is why I think the author hates her so much in particular. Regardless, the author has no right to commandeer beloved characters that are not his just to make them suffer; it’s disrespectful towards the original author he took the characters from.
So sneaky and secretive… I really hope we get some characters who can just be honest soon. Absolutely loving this so far tho! :)
