Gosh, this always happens. Just when I start to enjoy a novel, the author will feel the need to assert "my main character is manly men's men". Why? Your readers are undoubtedly composed of all genders, so, why go out of your way to alienate a portion of them? I can count the number of novels that I've read all the way that didn't do that on one hand, it's a bit sad ;-;
