But, the real reason is that they are self aware. Adam grows stronger and stronger as time passes at speed they could only dream of catching on. Adam needed proper allies, companions and partners that could stand by his side on the battlefield which none of them could, no matter how frustratingly it felt. Just look at the way Adam treated them in battle. He is afraid to even allow them to participate in fear they might get hurt and they appreciate it as that is the proof of his love and affection.
