Well, you're right, but it's a webnovel. There's a gray area harder to find than a unicorn. If the mc is good - he'll help any random cat, even at the cost of his life. If the mc is bad - it'll be a Joker-level dude (in terms of killing on sight) who is "better than others" for some reason (in the mind of the author and fans). Even the whole "I'm not going to be a villain, but I'm not going to be a hero either, I'm just going to kill villains" thing and the dude steals from everyone, slaughters people left and right, and throws money at some charity to prove he's good.
