Some context on the first paragraph: I'm a big fan of Kamen Rider, a series from Japan that has very sparse official English translations despite its wide popularity. If hobby translators hadn't taken on the series I never would've gotten to see it. And trust me.....the amount of money I've spent on official merch for these shows....🥶🥶🥶
I think that it's fair it got taken down when it was licensed but a lot of people don't seem understand the impact that translations have, even if they're mediocre. There's no doubt in my mind that creators PROFIT from people translating their works for free for other countries (though I'll admit that this is not a hard and fast rule. UtOT gained a wide viewership through the official webcomic iirc). I don't think many of these series would've even been licensed without unofficial translations getting the word out first. BY THE WAY: for oak tree specifically the unofficial translation had so many chapters because the original translator split the chapters up into 2. at this point the official translation is about 80-ish chapters behind where the unofficial left off if you calculate for that (including riftan's POV special chapters)
