Leave Zoro to Luffy in my opinion. It would kind of be a mess if you take him away from the straw hats. If you really want a swordsman just do what other stories do and keep Kuina alive and take her. Also first mate should be Yamato in my opinion it’s unique. Of course its all up to you tho author.

It depends on many things like what characters you want to connect him to and build background with. If you do 5 years before Roger execution by the time O’hara happens you can have him help Robin and even help Fisher Tiger free the slaves and have him build some sort of friendship for the future with Boa there. Ofc you can still build the connections with them by starting 10 years earlier just in a different way. It also depends if your going to the do romance and with which character or if your doing a harem.

During what Era is the story going to take place? Is he going to be a pirate before Luffy and then go into canon or is he going to set out same time as Luffy and be with the Worst Generation?
