agreed, Riftan is a very complex character. He does infuriating things but the author does a great job at helping us understand why. He is desperate to keep his idea of idyllic fantasy alive, and that overcomes his mind. It’s not an excuse but it’s an explanation. This story is about the flawed after all! I love it
