The first step is to work out the world and characters before they are pushed into each other. This should help you write a more unique story, but this is only in theory. I think it is also worth describing the alien races of the Empire in more detail. I've been reading and it always seems to me that they all behave like ordinary people. I wouldn't advise you to write big chapters. I, as a person who writes 10,000 words in each chapter, faced the problem of correcting and editing them. I think you need to write 1000-2000 words per chapter. This is the perfect size, neither too small nor too big. You should also add more thoughts to your characters. The reader and writer should understand the motives of the characters' actions, this will also add logic to them. In general, the rest of your work is good and interesting.
