i would say it's a combination of ashuras influence and hiruzens slight emotional manipulation...I mean imagine seeing a child so ostracized by the entire village for things the kid doesn't know and then appearing out of nowhere as a sole shoulder for tht child and giving him a goal tht he would grow obsessed to fulfill. this would essentially turn the equivalent of a human nuke and deterrent completely loyal to the village and would do anything to achieve its acknowledgement.

gilgamesh doesnt suck at close combat he just considers most opponents to be so beneath him tht they dont deserve him fighting in close combat with him.... so just yeets weapons at them to kill them quickly at get them out of his eyes
